1. Who We Are

Hooked is operated by Implement Ascend AI Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17095239), whose registered office is at 75 Church Road, Tiptree, Colchester, England, CO5 0HB.

We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) under registration number C1967478.

2. The Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal data:

• Account & profile: name, email address, username, date of birth (to enforce age requirements), and profile photo.
• Facebook Login: if you choose to sign in via Facebook, we receive your public profile and email address from Meta. See section 5 for more detail.
• Location: postcode or GPS coordinates when you search for lakes near you. Location sharing is off by default for users we identify as under 18.
• User-generated content: catch reports, photos, reviews, and comments you post within the app.
• Usage & device: pages viewed, features used, device type, operating system, browser, and IP address.
• Cookies: see section 6 for full details.
• Communications: messages you send to our support team.

3. Lawful Bases for Processing

• Contract: processing necessary to provide the service you have signed up for.
• Consent: analytics cookies, advertising features, and location sharing where required. Users under 13 require verifiable parental or guardian consent before we process their data.
• Legitimate interests: fraud prevention, security, improving the service, and direct marketing where you would reasonably expect it (always with an opt-out).

4. How We Use Your Data

• Creating and managing your account.
• Displaying nearby fisheries based on your location or postcode search.
• Showing catch reports and leaderboard rankings.
• Sending transactional emails (account verification, password reset).
• Improving the app through aggregate analytics.
• Detecting and preventing fraud or abuse.
• Marketing communications, where you have consented — never targeting users we know to be under 18 (see section 12).

5. Facebook Login

When you sign in using Facebook, Meta shares your public profile (name, profile picture) and email address with us. We use this data only to create or link your Hooked account. We do not post to your Facebook profile without your explicit instruction. You can disconnect Facebook at any time via Facebook → Settings & Privacy → Settings → Apps and Websites → Hooked → Remove.

Meta’s use of your data in connection with the login flow is governed by Meta’s Privacy Policy.

6. Cookies & Similar Technologies

We use two categories of cookies:

• Essential cookies: required for the site to function (authentication session, security tokens). These do not require your consent.
• Analytics & advertising cookies: including the Meta Pixel and Conversions API, which help us measure campaign performance. These require your consent via our cookie banner and are never used for users we know to be under 18.

You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clicking the “Cookie Settings” link in the site footer.

7. Who We Share Data With

• Meta Platforms: via Facebook Login and the Meta Pixel (with consent).
• Service providers: hosting, email delivery, analytics tools — each bound by a Data Processing Agreement.
• Other users: catch reports, reviews, and public profile information you choose to share.
• Authorities: where required by law or to protect legal rights.

We never sell your personal data.

8. International Transfers

Where your data is transferred outside the UK, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place under UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA), as applicable.

9. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate data.
• Erase your data (see our Data Deletion Instructions).
• Restrict or object to processing.
• Data portability (receive your data in a machine-readable format).
• Withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior processing.
• Not be subject to solely automated decisions with significant legal effects.

10. Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law (see section 12 of our Data Deletion Instructions).

11. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns first, so please contact us at privacy@carpnearme.co.uk before escalating.

12. Children and Young People

Hooked is intended for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without verifiable parental or guardian consent.

For users we identify as under 18, we apply high-privacy defaults: location sharing is off by default, and we do not use their data for advertising profiling or targeting. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account without consent, please contact privacy@carpnearme.co.uk and we will delete the account promptly.

13. Security

We protect your data using encryption in transit (TLS), access controls, and regular security reviews. In the event of a data breach that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the ICO within 72 hours and affected users without undue delay.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the service after that date constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
